ASI Family Workshop

BCCS Consultant Brian Favors at a Parent Workshop on Minimizing Barriers Between Home & School Communities

BCCS provides parent workshops that introduce best practices in supporting childhood education through the use of culturally responsive methodologies and parenting tools. The goals of BCCS family workshops are to empower parents to develop a knowledge base for understanding the issues, challenges and strategies for cultivating an academically stimulating home environment grounded in the principles of culturally responsive pedagogy.

They provide parents with information and skills to incorporate educational tools to support their child’s education at home. Workshops introduce parents to films, books, conversations and exposure to community resources that have been proven successful in assisting students to minimize barriers between the home and school, thus improving academic and social development.

The workshops are designed to empower parents to develop strategies for cultivating an academically stimulating home environment grounded in the principles of culturally responsive pedagogy. They work to encourage parental involvement and to help facilitate meaningful dialogue about the academic, social and professional development of their child.
